Love the dogs and homemade relish is delish. Service is great. Had cheeseburgers and a chocolate milk shake all perfect! (No pics cause we were hungry and in a rush)
This place is a classic. The dogs are awesome and the relish is next level.Pro tip. You can have the cheeseburger plain or the can add lettuce and tomato. Been coming here for years and I literally just learned this last week!!
I love Blackie's so much. The hot pepper relish is unique and delicious. Wish they still used Hummel dogs, but still the best. 2022 update, the dogs were on point the other day. Hot dog recipe improved? I don't know but I loved them.
The dogs are boiled so they come out quickly and just right. Then you add the homemade brown mustard and spicy brown relish, and it's a delight. Probably the best hotdog I've ever had. Don't forget to get the largest white Birch Beer soda you can, you will want more.
I've been coming here my whole life, came back to CT for a visit from FL, NOTHING compares to Blackies! This was our first stop to eat when we arrived. It also was my craving when pregnant with my son 38 yrs ago and it's also his favorite still. I bought him a shirt while there this visit along with 6 jars of relish, there's just nothing like it anywhere!
1 word; Timeless!Simple, great spot for fresh Hot Dogs & Hamburgers that's always consistent! Definitely a place to take the family on a nice day. Nothing has changed since I was a kid & I hope it continues to stay that way! (No dancing 😁)
Best hotdogs in Connecticut. They only take cash but they do you have an ATM on the premises. They’re famous for their relish even if you’re not a rose person to give it a try. They have a rotating variety of ice cream from big dipper ice cream. Three dollars for small five dollars for a large. They don’t do french fries but you can always grab a bag of chips.
An ardent fan of both hot dogs and Americana, I read about Blackie's when looking for hot dog stands in the northeast. Little did I know that I had likely driven past exit 26 on i84 countless times without being aware, and thus having an opportunity to stop at, this gem. That changed during a recent trip with my family. Making it a destination point during our travels we stopped to see if the "red hot" buzz I had read about was worth it.To be "Frank", yes, yes, and yes.My family and I truly "relished" our stop at this no frills joint, where the "wurst" part was leaving. Locals came in an out, simply asking for a number with a soda (good mix of cola and birch beer orders), and were promptly served. The staff was friendly, and you could tell they cared about the place, the customers, and the traditions. The relish has a nice, but not overpowering, heat, and the dogs have a crisp medium snap and good flavor. My son liked the burgers so much he had a second. He doesn't eat anything. It's too bad I don't live closer. I'd gladly walk through the door, say "2 and a birch beer", and get exactly what I came in for.Although my preferences for a buttered and grilled bun are long established, I have nothing but the best impressions of Blackie's Hot Dog Stand, and would put their product and atmosphere up against any I've tried. Kudos to this establishment; We're looking forward to our next visit!
While visiting relatives and friends you have to stop by for a few dogs. Just like when ordering a cheese steak in Philly there's a right way to order at Blackies. For me it's Two and a cheese, a small birch and chips. 90 years in business and still killing it. It's all about the relish, go enjoy but ask someone beforehand how to order. They'll think you're a local then. Always Chefnfly
Our family has been going to Blackies since the 40s. So grateful they stayed open during the pandemic. They made it easy to get our favorites!! Thanks to Blackie's crew!!
Been going here by whole life. My parents went on dates here back in "the day." Excellent hot dogs. My favorite. Small and cozy, with a friendly atmosphere.
Awesome as always. Got a bottle of relish as well.. My son Maddox and I truly enjoyed it. He was done with both dogs b4 we got to the top of Southington mountain. Lol. Great job ladies and gentlemen.
Quick, quality food, much better than Dairy Queen or McDonald's or anything like that. You walk in, they take your order, less than a minute later you're out the door back to your car. And the food isn't bad. In fact, it's really, really good.
The hot dog came out pretty quick and it was delicious. I'm not really a relish or mustard person but their signature relish and mustard is pretty good
50% of the time that I make a Costco run, I had to stop here for a couple dogs. Walk in, say "2" and that's it. The mustard and relish are the only condiments that should grace the hotdogs.
Great place for a cheap hot dog or burger. Always closed on Fridays though! Prices are very affordable and the food is great...don't forget to try their relish!! I used to come here as a kid years ago and the quality hasn't changed a bit! Still just as good as I remember!
It is the absolute best place to get a hot dog. Their homemade relish is simply outstanding. I have been coming here most of my life. I used to live in the area, so I could stop in at any time. I have sinced moved away, every time I come back to the area, it is one of the places I MUST go before I leave. I make sure to get a few jars of relish to take home. It is a reminder of how good this place is when I am at home.
No Frills, but not in a bad way. Hot dogs with relish and mustard are absolutely delish. may not be the best place in the world, but it's always fast, and always delicious
"A Connecticut tradition since 1928". I walk in and hold up 2 fingers. "anything else?" is the usual response. In less than a minute, a steaming plate (paper) of dogs, wrapped in a plain bun, is delivered. Now, the hot dog alone was worth the stop...but...can't leave without a generous addition of Blackies famous hot pepper relish. Menu is short....dogs, burgers, chips, ice cream and fountain sodas. A once per month stop at the least. Hell, the building alone is worth the stop.

One of the last great Connecticut hot-dog road houses, and a real townie gem. toasted bun, fried to perfection hummel bros frankfurter, spicy relish that I wake up craving, and a splash of cold birch beer. That, my friends, is the quintessential Blackies; Simple, timeless, delicious.
I have lived in Waterbury most of my life and have never tried a Blackie's Hot Dog until last night. I have to honestly admit it was the best hot dog I've had in a long time! The service was friendly and fast. Kudos to the professional young man with the red beard and the young lady on the grill. They worked well as a team. I will definitely be back soon for a great hotdog and friendly service!

Great hot dogs, the relish is amazing, a little heat. Staff is friendly, fast service. The milkshake was thick and creamy. The coffee flavor shone through.
I love this place! Such good food and it's not too expensive. The only downside is they only take cash but they have an atm on site so that works out. I would come here every week if I could.
Came here on the way back from a work meeting. The coworker I was with said it was a good spot for a quick meal. The hotdogs came out incredibly quick, and hot the spot. Looking forward to going back again. Simple menu done right.
Blackie's is a time capsle, it's dark and unassuming joint where little has changed since 1928., with time tested fare you will get a filling hot dog at a fair price.Even the staff show the ravages of time, but they greet you with a smile and you feel at home with all the strangers eating at the counter. The hot dogs arrive within minutes, served on paper plates, naked, nothing on but in front of you a dispenser with their home made relish.Blackie's is filled with local flavor and colorful history that can't be found at any chain restaurant.
Been a customer since the early 70's. My order is always.... "two and a small Birch Beer"... in and out in minutes...even if you eat there! Simple, great hot dogs with a very nice spicy brown mustard... but the relish is their thing! Great lunch on the run or when you're running your weekend errands. But remember... they're always closed on Fridays.
